26 March, our independence day, is the biggest state festival. The day is celebrated every year in the country with great enthusiasm and fevour. It is national holiday. All offices, educational institutions, shops and factories remain closed on this day. They day begins with a 31- gun salute.
Early in the moring the president and the prime minister on hehalf of the nation place flora wreaths at the National mausoleum at savar. Then other leaders, political panties, diplomas, social and cultural organizations, educational institutions and freedom fighteres pay homage to the martyrs. People from all walk of life also go in rallies and processions. There are many cultural programmes through out the day, highlighting the heroic struggle and sacrifice in 1971.
The country also witnesses a spectacular parade of defence forces, borader guards, police, ansars and the VDP (village defense party) at the national parade Ground near the national partiament. In Bangladesh national stadium, school childer, scouts and girl guides fake part in various displays to entertain thousands of spectators Educational institutions also organize their individual programmes. Sport meets and tounamen are also organized. On the dau including the exciting boat race in the river buriganga.
In the evening all major public building are illuminatted with colourful light. Bangla Academy, Bangladesh shilpakala Academy and other socio-cultural organizations hold cultural functions similar functions are also arranged in other places in the country.

Write another vital element of the environment is also polluted in different ways. Man pollutes water by throwing waste into it. Farmers use chemical fertilizers and insecticides in their fields. When rain and floods wash away some of these chemicals, they get mixed with water in rivers canals and thus pollute the water. Water vechicles also pollute rivers by dumping oil, food waste and human waste into them. Insanitary latrines and unsafe drains standing on river and canal barks are also responsible for furter pollution. Thus water is contaminated by various friends of waste and filth.
